Growing Pains [Dolores de crecimiento]

Growing Pains

Growing Pains
(Dolores de crecimiento]

Because of the economical crisis many young Spanish people are falling back into their childish       behaviors, although they inhabit their adult skin. Growing up is painful although right now it feels more like a mental than physical growth.
Growing pains analyses the idea of reactivating our memory and manages a certain level of complicity with the spectator while recalling their memories. After this first interpretation there hides a more perverse concept that reflects upon the childishness of our society caused by the historical period that we are going through (recession, precariousness and family dependence).

Growing pains represents the development of micro-fictional biographies, all characterized by a common denominator: a young generation that still lives in their family homes and financially depends on their parents in order to survive while at the same time having the fictitious feeling of being emancipated. In order to carry out this concept I decided to reproduce ten people’s children’s clothing, over-sized and adapted to their present adult size. I then took a photograph of the person in the outfit while living a day-to-day situation.
